Master of Arts in Education in Educational Studies
Program Description
The Master of Arts in Educational Studies program offers a flexible curriculum to accommodate the diverse needs and interests of its students. Core courses will provide a foundation in research, policy analysis, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging principles. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in real-world educational projects, collaborate with faculty, and work closely with mentors in their field. These practical experiences will complement the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom and provide students with valuable skills for addressing challenges they will encounter in their future careers. Additionally, students will have the flexibility to choose from a range of electives that align with their specific career goals.
There is one Master of Arts in Educational Studies Accelerated Concentration. Winthrop undergraduates who earn teaching certification in early childhood or elementary education are eligible. They must have a 3.0 GPA and the following courses on their transcript, earning a C or better in each:
SPED 281 Introduction to Special and Gifted Education
SPED 507 Characteristics of Students with Disabilities
READ 570 Instr Methods and Assess I: Teaching Emergent, Beginning, & Struggling Readers & Writers
READ 580 Instr Methods and Assess II: Teaching Transitional, Intermediate, & Advanced Readers/Writers
